Greened Patio

Marseille • 2019

In Marseille, we designed an outdoor green wall for the patio of a private loft, meant to turn an inner courtyard into a planted patio. The constraint was to install a vertical garden in the open air, able to withstand the Mediterranean climate and the sun, without drilling into or damaging the original wall. Our solution is a free-standing stainless steel structure, with no contact with the wall, made of 3 connected modules that guarantee ventilation and durability. The living wall has automatic irrigation suited to outdoor conditions, for controlled maintenance. The composition blends Mediterranean, perennial and evergreen plants, chosen for their resistance to sun and heat. Standing 2.2 metres high and 3 metres long, this living green wall turns the patio into a true haven of greenery, improves thermal comfort and creates a soothing biophilic atmosphere. In Marseille, this custom plant scenography creates an intimate, living outdoor space that lastingly enhances the home.
