Preserved Niwaki

In Barcelona, VG.TAL3Design composed a set of preserved niwaki trees to bring Japanese elegance and a sculptural dimension to the space. The challenge: to recreate the ancestral art of niwaki, these cloud-pruned trees, without the maintenance constraints of living indoor trees, no watering, no light, no regular pruning. Our workshop selected and preserved specimens with graphic silhouettes, whose foliage tiers evoke Japanese zen gardens and create a visual rhythm in the room. Being preserved, these trees keep their shape and natural colour for years with no maintenance at all, an ideal solution for a demanding interior where living plants would be hard to maintain. Arranged as a group, they structure the space and give it a mineral, plant-like serenity. This project illustrates VG.TAL3Design's expertise in bespoke preserved trees and plant specimens for the decoration of residential and professional interiors, in Barcelona and across Europe.
